'dell, of venturebeat.com. as well as john myers, kxtv political editor joining us from sacramento. governor jerry brown struck a confident tone on thursday, applauding lawmakers and voters for making tough decisions to balance california's budget. he also pushed for his priorities including education and regulatory reform. now, john, how would you rate his speech and what left the biggest impressions on you? >> well, you know, rating the speech, a speech from jerry brown is really tough to do because it's unlike any other speech you get from any other governor. how many governors go from the book of genesis to "the little engine that could" in one 25-minute speech? this was a vintage jerry brown speech. i think really what you saw here was a little bit of the governor running a victory lap. proposition 30 passed. temporary taxes passed. the budget looks a lot better. i think this was the governor's chance to pivot, to pivot to talking about what makes california great, how we get them back on track. don't worry, we're getting there. so i took this as a real optimistic speech with a lot of details, a lo

, you might know is about 30 miles south of sacramento on highway 99, about halfway to stockton. a suspected burglar shot kevin tonn. tonn is a 3 1/2-year veteran of the police department. and it's the first on-duty casualty since it was formed in 1946. the 35-year-old worked with his canine partner. he served as an ambassador for canine teams in northern california and in the bay area. seen in this picture. a lot of local events, tonn raised money for police dogs and getting them bulletproof vests. >>> we have information on what happened when the tanker hit the bay bridge last week. the pilot, guy cleese, made a last minute change of course. cleese had apparently planned to go between two towers in the middle of the western span. then, tried to turn the tanker to go through a different opening, causing him to hit one of the towers. it's not clear why he made that last-minute change. the coast guard and federal investigators are not commenting on this report. >>> i can't believe another human being would do something like that. >> a shop nearly cast him life. as the east bay ba

in lake tahoe, 45 yosemite and 57 degrees in the sacramento valley. looks like our futurecast model is keeping things nice and clear. you have that huge dome of high pressure overhead no fog to speak of. we may see a couple of patches of fog return to the coastline toward the weekend but in the meantime, nice and clear for today. sunny and bright and really some nice temperatures to go along with that likely to see some 60s beginning to pop up in the south bay. 61 degrees in san jose. about 60 in sunnyvale and about 61 degrees in redwood city. temperatures a little bit cooler into the east bay but not bad. mostly sunny all day long. inside the bay sunny 60 in oakland, 62 santa rosa, 57 mill valley. so looking out over the next few days, it looks like a return to some spring-like conditions outside. mid-60s maybe even a little warmer on friday and into saturday. looks like the temperatures may begin to col down just a little bit as we head in toward the beginning of the next week. next week we start to talk about rain but for at least the next f
